Classic Nova Scotia Summer Home On A White Sand Beach | Cottage in Sable River
3 Bedroom Cottage in Ragged Island, Sable River
Sea Mist is a traditional farm / fisherman’s house on a kilometre long natural sandy beach. It is a century old home located in the small seaside hamlet of Little Harbour, with nearly 500’ of sheltered waterfront on nearly eight private acres. It is a lovely retreat, that hugs you with calm when you walk through the door. Cozy, sunny, casual, with a bright kitchen, it makes a perfect vacation home for a family with children, or a couple.
The house has everything you need in a vacation cottage. Approximately 1900 square feet, but the flow makes it feel more spacious. The kitchen is fully equipped with a fridge, stove, dishwasher, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, kettle and other small appliances. Meals can be enjoyed outside on the deck, in a dining area off the kitchen, or at a table in the year-round sunroom.
All three bedrooms are upstairs. The master bedroom has a queen size bed. A second room also has a queen bed, while the third bedroom has a twin bed and a set of bunk beds. All bedrooms have dressers and closets. Linens are provided. There is a 4 piece bathroom on the upper level, and a 3 piece bathroom with a shower on the main floor. There is a stacking washer and dryer on the main floor as well.
A large deck allows you to enjoy a fabulous unobstructed view of Little Harbour and the Atlantic ocean beyond. Enjoy your morning coffee watching the sunrise over the harbour. While away an afternoon watching boats arriving at the lobster pound to unload their catch, listening to the surf or watching birds overhead. Stroll over to the pound and buy some lobsters for dinner (in season).
The meadow offers lots of room to play amongst the apple trees, wild roses, lupins and other wildflowers. This is a rural property with a variety of wildlife around the area (fox, deer, rabbits, etc.). The sheltered sandy harbour is good for swimming and wading, and offers warmer water than one might expect from the north Atlantic……. at least by Nova Scotia’s standards. (But keep in mind, this is the north Atlantic!).
The south shore is a particularly fabulous location for birdwatchers. At the end of our road is Hemeon’s Head Conservation Lands. “This site is part of an internationally designated Important Bird Area, recognized for its significance for nesting, breeding and migratory birds. It provides critical habitat for several rare and endangered species, including Harlequin ducks, Red knots and Piping plovers. With so few plover nesting sites left in Nova Scotia, their habitat at at Hemeon’s Head is essential to survival of the species.”
National Geographic has identified the South Shore of Nova Scotia as the 8th best coastal destination in the world. The area is excellent for outdoor recreational activities including sailing, kayaking, canoeing, fishing, hiking, trail walking and cycling, as well as coastal exploring and sightseeing. We are also well situated for day trips to many other beautiful beaches and villages all along the South Shore. It is less than a 15 minute drive to the quaint village of Lockeport and about a half hour (+/-) to Liverpool and Shelburne.
Sea Mist would be a great spot for a honeymoon for a couple but it is not available for weddings, events or reunions.
